Aidan completed his first week at his new daycare, Talented Tots. Unfortunately, he did not have the strength to kick any of the number of bugs going around the classroom. On his second day, there was a notice posted that he may have been exposed to either Strep throat or Roseola. I didn't know what the second one was, so I did some research on it. I guess it starts out as a high fever (103-105F) then progresses to a rash that starts on the trunk and moves out to the extremities.
Well on Friday when I picked him up, he had some tiny red dots all over his torso. By Saturday, he had them on his butt and groin area, and by Sunday, they were spread to his hands, feet, and some on his face. I wasn't sure if it was Roseola because he never had a temperature, but it came with the same symptoms.
We postponed his 9 month picture session until next weekend due to his spotted appearence, so hopefully they will be gone, or mostly gone, by next weekend.
Some things I wish were better about the daycare were the sanitation issues in the infant room. At lapetite, the teachers (and visitors) wore shoe covers to protect the bottom of their feet from being exposed to the kids. Talented Tots doesn't have that policy. Also, I don't know how often they clean the toys in between children either. They have a big pile of toys on the play mat, and all the kids play with them. At lapetite, they only allowed one child to play with the toy, then they sanitized it before allowing another child to play with the same toy. I guess that explains how so much sickness is getting spread around so quickly. Some say it is better that he is exposed to it, but I just don't want my baby to suffer just so he can gain immunity to it.
We go to the doctor's office on July 7th for his 9 month well baby visit. We will get a complete work-up and see where he is at with weight, height, and developmental. I am going to ask the doctor about starting him on some table foods (if he recommends it), and transferring him into a big boy carseat.
Since his is already 9 months, we only have 3 months left to prepare him for the next stage in his daycare. He has to be off of the bottle, off of baby food completely, and able to feed himself. It's so hard to think that he will be there soon. I am scared to start him on table food because of allergies, and choking issues. I guess I will have to get over my paranoia and just let him learn by himself.

P90X Week 3
Still not doing any workouts, but focusing on what I eat instead. I have been really busy lately working on finishing up my ATI program and studying for NCLEX, that workouts have been put on the back burner.
We are hoping to start them back up once I take my boards though. I just hope that I still have time before the wedding.

happy father's day
Just wanted to give a shout out to my dad today. He is one of the greatest dads I could ever know. He taught me so much throughout the years, and I love him more and more every day. He has shown me how hard work pays off. I don't think I would be the person I am today without him in my life. Love you dad!
Also, can't forget about the father of my baby boy. I am so glad that I found him, and have him in my life. He is such a good man, and an excellent father. He takes such good care of me and Aidan, and Aidan loves him so much. It is easily seen in the smiles and laughs that I hear from the 2 of them. Aidan looks to his daddy for playtime, and I think that is where they share one of the strongest bonds. I know this because Aidan doesn't care too much to play with me like that.
Although it was hard to come to reality that he was going to be a father, I knew that when he held that little boy in his arms for the first time, he would fall in love. Aidan has changed his life forever, and possibly made it even better.
this isn't the greatest picture of me, but I also was under a lot of anesthesia

P90X Days 13 and 14
From now on, I am only going to post updates weekly. So you can check back every Sunday to see how my progress is doing.
Saturday was such a busy day. I had my pampered chef party and went out to dinner with Derek's parents and my sister. We went to the 54th Street Brewery. It was delicious. I ordered blackened grilled tilapia with seasoned veggies and a house salad. It also came with wild rice, which is my new found love. The flavor it has is incredible, I could eat it all day.
Today, we are going to a BBQ at my friend's house, so it is going to be a bit harder to stay on track there.

P90X Days 11 and 12
Not a whole lot of new things to report. I've been studying a lot lately, so no working out, again. We made turkey burgers for dinner, with no bun last night. They weren't too bad. Not my favorite. They had bread crumbs, parsley, dijon mustard, green onion, buttermilk, pepper, and of course, 97% lean ground turkey. We topped it off with some mozzarella cheese and dipped it in some mustard.
Tonight for dinner, we cheated a little and went to KFC. We ordered the grilled chicken with green beans, corn on the cob, and coleslaw. Surprisingly, it wasn't too bad, and not too bad for you. The chicken breast only had 190 calories, green beans 20 calories, corn on the cob 140 calories, and coleslaw 180 calories. Considering that I eat light each day anyways, it was still under my calorie intake.
Tonight, Derek and I cleaned up the house to get ready for my pampered chef party tomorrow. We also drank some wine (like that is good for me) and watched Transformers.
I think that starting at the 2 week mark, I am only going to do updates once a week, unless something really important happens.

P90X Day 10
Wow, I can't believe it has been 10 days already. It doesn't feel like it since we haven't been conisistent on working out every day. But I am still losing weight, which was the whole point of this!
I ate rather light today. I had a fiber one bar for breakfast, and a cup of cottage cheese for a late lunch/afternoon snack. For dinner, I made chicken tacos with lettuce, tomato, salsa, and cheddar cheese. We used corn tortillas because they are supposed to be healthy, but I thought they tasted weird and were really thin. My taco kept falling apart, so I ended up just eating the contents out of it instead. The tortillas tasted more mexican than what I was expecting. They reminded me a lot like the enchilada tortillas (which they are probably used for that anyways).
No workout again tonight. Aidan has been teething, so it makes it really hard. Still losing weight though!

P90X Day 9
Nothing too interesting today. Just stuck with the diet. Aidan was up late again, so no workout. I guess I'm not really looking at this program to transform me into some muscular person, but I see it as a weight loss program. I just want to lose a little weight before the wedding, so as long as I stick to the diet and workout a few times a week, I feel that I can accomplish that goal.
I did make a protein shake today, and it wasn't too bad. It had fruit, milk, protein powder, and some ice. Use a blender and it comes out almost like a smoothie.
For lunch I made a turkey wrap. I was able to use the scale that we purchased, and when measuring things out, I learned that I was way underestimating myself. I am glad we purchased one, that way we can get measurements right now!

P90X Day 8
Today was such a BUSY day...to say the least. I figured I would be sore from the shoulder/arms workout, but I was feeling pretty good. I had a lot to do today, so it was sort of an 'off' day for me.
I had to leave early to go into Topeka, so I didn't get a chance to eat breakfast. I went to lunch at Subway and ate a 6 inch turkey and ham sandwich. I did go all out and eat a bag of baked lays and had a diet coke with it....woah!
For dinner, my siblings and I took my dad out for his birthday and father's day. We went to Texas Roadhouse (where hardly anything is low calorie). I ordered a 6 ounce sirloin, steamed veggies, and a house salad with low fat ranch dressing. I was strong and avoided the delicious rolls that they serve....very hard.
No workout tonight. Didn't get home until way after 10pm. So I guess put off yoga for another day. So sad....

follow up appt
Aidan went to the doctor today for a 3 week follow up from his ear infection. Doctor looked in his ears, and everything looked fine. No more infection, and the eardrum on the one that blew looked healed.
The doctor also said that he has a buildup of wax in his ears, and suggested that we give him Debrox ear drops once a day.
Aidan weighs in at 20 lbs (he is 8 1/2 months). A steady weight gain of about 1 lb a month has been the pattern. We did not measure length, but will at his 9 month well baby check up.
The doctor said that he is developmentally advanced for his age. He also thinks that he is tall for his age as well. He said that most babies just start crawling about now, and Aidan is already pulling himself up and walking along furniture.
He suggested that we teach him sign language, so that he can express his needs better. I will have to look into that. His old daycare used to do it, but I am pretty sure that his new one doesn't. I guess it will be a parenting lesson for Derek and I to teach him ourselves.
This week, we moved into size 3 diapers....finally. They are still very big on him, and they leak a lot. Right now, we use Huggies, and I hate them. Derek and I are going to have to try out some different brands to find ones that fit him better. The size 2 diapers just weren't cutting it anymore. Shockingly, size 3 diapers are supposed to be for weights of 16-23lbs, and Aidan just got into them at 20 lbs, and they are still too big...wonder what that means?!
Aidan is trying to cut another tooth. He is working on the one on the bottom left, next to his bottom front teeth. So far, he has 6 total.
That's all I have to report so far! Check back again for his 9 month visit in 3 weeks!

P90X Day 7
Well, this is the end of the first week of P90X, and I have to say, I am very proud of myself. I have stuck to the diet, and worked out 4 out of the 7 days. We bought a bathroom scale today, and a food scale so we can weigh out our food. I have just been eyeballing it lately.
We made omlets for breakfast, and unfortunately I skipped lunch today. I had a fiber one bar in the afternoon and a protein shake. Hopefully that will supplement. For dinner, Derek made swordfish with a mango sauce. We were supposed to have wild rice as a side, but unfortunately, forgot to pick it up at the store.
Yoga was going to be our workout tonight, but Aidan was being very clingy and fussy, so we had to put it off another day. I'm not sure what was going on with him, but he ended up going to bed at 8:00pm, but woke up again at 9:30pm. Derek tried to put him back to sleep, but I think he just wanted his mommy :)
Starting on the weight tracking today!!!

P90X Day 6
So we had to go to the grocery store this morning to get some essentials for our meals. We made a cheese scramble for breakfast, and I have to say it was tasty. We were going to get some turkey bacon to go with it, but forgot. Oh well, maybe next time.
We decided to clean house today since it hasn't been done since we moved in a couple weeks ago. The place looks sooo much better. I will have to take some pictures and post them at a later date.
We tried to do the shoulders and arms workout while Aidan was napping this afternoon, but he didn't nap long, so that was a no go. We decided to just do it tonight and do yoga tomorrow instead.
For dinner, I made baked chicken with honey-chile sauce. It was very good. It had great flavor, and with a side of snap peas, it was very filling.
Our workout was super tough, but worthwhile. I could definitely feel it in my shoulders and arms. I imagine I will be feeling it even more in the next couple of days. We also did Ab Ripper X and that was really hard. I couldn't even do half of the reps, let alone the exercises. I felt like such a wimp. Hopefully after a few weeks, I will be stronger and able to do much more.
Super excited about YOGA tomorrow!!!

P90X Day 5
After yesterday's workout, I am not feeling that bad. I thought my legs would hurt a lot, but I really don't feel it. Maybe its because we only did half of the workout. Who knows. Anyways, for breakfast, I just had a fiber one bar.
I had to take a test today, so my lunch was pushed back to after 2pm. I decided to make an omlet with vegetables like the one from Day 1. I need a way to get some more protein into my diet, so I thought the eggs should help. I also added some ham as well. It turned out pretty good. Afterwards, I made a protein drink. They seem to be tasting much better as I drink them more often.
Tonight for dinner, Derek and I decided to go out to the Zona Rosa and eat. It is the first real time we are going to an actual restaurant and choosing something off the menu. Let's hope we made the right choices!
We decided on going to the Hereford House. We split an entree, and shared the hickory grilled chicken. It came with 2 chicken breasts, so there was no need to get two meals. We both ordered steamed veggies and a side salad. It was really good, and not too expensive. Aidan also joined us, and ate some mashed potatoes and a roll (well, he chewed on the roll).
After dinner we walked around Zona Rosa. It was a bit muggy outside, but overall the temperature was mild. We went to the GNC store and Complete Nutrition store to look at protein supplements. Hopefully, we find one that we like and will stick to.
No workout tonight. Was tired from all the walking around Zona Rosa. So tomorrow, we are going to do the weights with shoulders and arms....then YOGA!!!

P90X Day 4
So far, the diet has been the only thing I've stuck to. For breakfast this morning, I ate a Fiber One Oats and Chocolate bar. It was so yummy. I love those!
I had a protein drink as a morning snack. For lunch, I ate another chef salad. They are so good, but I think I need to try a different lunch idea. I'm sort of getting burned out on salads. An afternoon snack consisted of string cheese.
Derek and I are already getting burnt out on cooking a full meal, so tonight, we decided to go to Wendy's. I ordered the Chicken BLT salad with grilled chicken and light ranch dressing. I loved the grilled chicken...it was so juicy and full of flavor.
We did cheat a bit tonight. We went to Sheridan's Frozen Custard for dessert and both had some chocolate custard. It was delicious. Going to have to hold off on desserts for a while though!
Working out tonight consisted of the polymetrics. It was a lot of jumping and cardio. It worked mainly the lower body, and it was really hard! The warm up was exhausting. We only made it through half of the workout, which usually lasts an hour. Aidan was getting fussy and we were whipped! Our goal is by week 2, we will finish the polymetric workout.

P90X Day 3
Today, I am feeling the soreness in my shoulders and back a lot more. It makes it hard to raise my arms above my head. Luckily, I can still pick up Aidan.
I am feeling a little bit guilty about not working out last night, but plan to make up for it today. For breakfast, I tried another protein bar. I don't know what brand they are, but they aren't too bad.
Lunch, I had a chef salad again. It was just as good as the first time I had it. Nothing too out of the ordinary. For an afternoon snack, I had a protein drink with skim milk. It tasted much better than the last time I drank one.
Dinner was simple. We went to Subway. I had a 6 inch ham and turkey sandwich with no cheese. I feel that I am doing well with the diet so far. I am having some cravings for some greasy foods and some sweets, but I am trying to fight the urges.
No workout again. We usually do them after Aidan goes to bed so that he doesn't get in the way. But lately, he hasn't been going to bed until after 10pm. It makes it hard for us to do our 1 hour workouts and get to bed at a decent time. As long as we stick to the diet, I'm not too concerned about gaining weight with the program. I just won't lose it as fast as I would like to. We will see what tomorrow has in store for us!

Aidan's new daycare
We are signing up for a new daycare that is in our area. We have decided on Talented Tots in Platte City, MO. It is on our way to work, just off of I-29N. For the price, it is nice. We couldn't get him into any of the La Petite's around here because no one had availability when we needed it. Aidan will start his new daycare on June 21, 2010. I sure hope he likes it! I will definitely miss him being around the house again, but I know that this is good for his development.
P90X Day 2
So, after yesterday's workout, I am not feeling too bad. My shoulders/back/chest are slightly sore, but not anything that is compromising my ability to do everyday activities. We will see what tomorrow holds.
For breakfast, I just ate a protein bar. Today I tried the cliff's brand, which were much better. I liked the chocolate over the peanut butter, and I thought the crunchies made it a bit better. Will have to keep those in mind when looking for more!
Lunch was delicious. I made a chef salad. It had romaine lettuce, ham, turkey, roma tomoates, and ranch dressing. I was supposed to put mozzarella cheese on it too, but forgot.
Dinner was good too. I made a broccoli stir fry. It had onions, ginger, garlic, beef, broccoli, soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice vinegar. It was very filling and under 500 calories.
We didn't get to work out tonight because Aidan decided to stay up late. So tomorrow night we are going to do what we should have done tonight. Still sticking with the diet though!

P90X Day 1
I received P90X for my graduation present from Derek, so we are going to start the "total body transformation" before the wedding. I just hope I don't do such a drastic change that I have to buy a new dress! My feelings about this is that I am very nervous. I haven't been able to stick to a 'diet' or workout program in the past, and I just hope to keep the motivation to continue this. I don't think I feel comfortable posting my before picture on here, but I will keep a record on the amount of weight lost. I will probably keep a weekly weight. Wish me luck!
For breakfast, I made an omlet that was very good. It had roma tomatoes, egg whites, green onions, low fat cheddar cheese, and salt/pepper to taste. It was supposed to have mushrooms, but I hate them, so they were omitted. I also had low fat cottage cheese as a side. It was very filling.
I did make a protein shake for an afternoon snack, but I didn't care for it too much. I used Jillian Michael's Whey Protein Powder in chocolate, mixed it with about 8 ounces of skim milk, and added some ice in a blender. I thought it was kind of bland. Also, tried out some protein bars too. I tried Powerbar's brownie protein bar and dulce de leche bar. I definitely had a flashback to many years ago when I tried them before and nearly threw up. I hate powerbar's protein bars, and will not try them ever again. Hopefully there are some better tasting ones out there.
For dinner (breakfast was so filling, I didn't eat any lunch), I made baked salmon, sauteed asparagus, wild rice, and red pepper soup. The soup was the only thing I had a hard time eating. It had a bit of heat to it, maybe from the onion and red bell peppers.
The workout was focused on chest and back. It had a lot of push ups and pull ups in it. It was hard, but I did my best, even if that meant that I could only do 3 reps. I hope to get much stronger and be able to do them with better ease. We were supposed to do abs too, but it was really late when we finished that we skipped them. Hopefully, we will do them tomorrow.
