doctor's appointment

This morning, I noticed that Aidan was having some drainage from his right ear. I cleaned it out with a q-tip, and yet there was still quite a bit later. It was a yellow almost light green color. I wasn't sure if it was due to the chemicals in the pool water from yesterday, or something else. I was slow to call the doctor cause I thought it was going to be just a lot of earwax, but decided to double check anyways. I called the doctor, and made an appointment, since they wanted to actually see the drainage to determine if, and what kind of treatment is needed.

At the doctor's office, she looked in his ears, and assessed the drainage. She looked in his left ear first, and said that it was red and infected. She couldn't see inside his right ear with all the drainage, but she was certain it was infected too. She said that there was probably buildup behind the membrane, and it just popped, releasing all the pus/drainage. She prescribed him amoxicillin, again, and will have a follow up appointment in 3 weeks.

my lil' flower girl...

Ashlynn, my niece, is going to be my flower girl at my wedding. Trying on dresses was a lot of fun. Just wanted to share some of the pictures we took that day!

fun in the sun

We took Aidan out for his first time swimming today. He did such a good job. The weather cooled down...it was supposed to be 90, but felt more like in the 70s with the breeze. I was afraid it was going to be too cold for him, and the water was really cold too. We stuck his feet in first, then let him sit on the step for a bit. We bought him a baby spring float to use in the pool, and he seemed to like it. We were only out for about a half an hour, and it was more of an introduction to the water rather than him laughing/having a great time.

After swimming, he ate a bottle, took a bath, and passed out. What a day!

Before heading to the pool...

First time in his baby float...

And finally chillin' with a bottle...

bridesmaid dress shopping

Today, my two bridesmaids and I went shopping for their dresses at David's Bridal. We found dresses that looked great on them both, but I wouldn't dare embarrass them and post the pictures, so here are the stock pictures from David's Bridal website.

This is Tina's dress, my maid of honor:

This is Sara's dress, my bridesmaid:

We also looked at flower girl dresses, but that will be another post. Ashlynn loved dressing up in different dresses, and looked so cute in all of them! More photos to come!

Aidan standing up

Aidan has been working extra hard to pull himself up lately. Well, I think he finally has the hang of it, cause he is doing it all the time now! Next stop...walking!

graduation day

Today (May 15, 2010) was a very big step in my career. I graduated from Washburn University School of Nursing with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. I have worked so long and hard to accomplish this goal, and finally after 6 years, I am now able to say that I am a registered nurse (of course, I still have to take my boards to get my license).

The commencement ceremony was long and boring, but what can you expect. I did get a bit anxious when I got up to the stage and was about to walk across. It was very nerve-racking seeing everyone in the audience. I was glad that my family was able to make it, especially my dad. The pinning ceremony was better, but seemed long. I wasn't able to understand what the speakers were saying cause the speaker system was muffled from onstage. Plus the lights were making it hot and gave me a headache. It was pretty awesome to get pinned though. That was the highlight of it. Plus, more family was there and that was awesome too. I am glad that I was able to share such a moment with the ones I love.

Now it is on to bigger and better things in life. I accepted a position as a PRN nurse (as needed)on the Medical/Surgical/Oncology floor at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, MO. I start on June 21, 2010 for orientation, and hope to eventually work full-time within a couple months. I don't have a scheduled date yet to take my boards, but I am hopefully going to get them done (and passed) by mid-June.

My goals are that I want to eventually go back to school and get my MSN (master's) and work as a nurse midwife. For now, I hope to get some experience as an RN and work in med/surg and obstetrics for a few years.

Mother's Day

My first mother's day was just what I had expected. Unfortunately, I had to work this morning, so I did not get the 'breakfast in bed' like some moms do. But that's ok. I was able to spend the entire afternoon and evening with my baby. We just hung out at my mom's all day, then went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse. Aidan ate some mashed potatoes and applesauce. I had the chicken critters dinner. It was fantastic. My little brother, Justin, also joined us. Aidan loved him. He would just look at him and give him the biggest smile. It was so sweet. Justin even held him when he got home! I knew he loved him too!!!

Aidan's daycare made cute mother's day cards on Friday. They have a butterfly on the front, and for the wings, they used his footprints. It was super cute. The inside had a picture of Aidan smiling, and it just said the usual, "happy mother's day 2010, Love Aidan'.

Gotta love it! I am the luckiest mom in the world to have the most amazing son ever! I do my best to do right for him, and I like to think that I am doing a pretty good job raising him (with the help of his dad too). I love you Aidan!

Aidan's first word

Aidan has been babbling a lot lately, and just recently, we have been able to make out his first word...dada. Derek is stoked, and everytime he says it, he gets a big smile on his face. Even though Aidan isn't aware with what it means, it still is pretty cute. He babbles it all the time now. Sometimes I walk into his room in the morning and he is laying there in his bed just repeating "dada" over and over again.
