sick baby

After 7 months of being a happy, healthy little boy, Aidan has officially gotten sick. Starting on Saturday, April 24th, he was feeling a bit warm, but nothing out of the ordinary. Sunday, he was warm again, and acting a bit different. I took his temperature and it was 98-99F. I wasn't too worried, since he sometimes runs a bit high. Monday afternoon, LaPetite called me and said that he was running a temperature of 102.5F, so I had to come and pick him up. I kept him home Tuesday, since he was still running a slight temp. Tuesday night while giving him a bath, he was not acting normal. He was acting very clingy, tired, fussy, and had a temperature. So, Wednesday I called the doctor to get him an appointment. I was thinking that maybe he had a slight ear infection, cause he would flinch everytime we would come close to his ear. Well, the doctor said she couldn't find anything wrong with his ears. She also checked his lymph nodes, lungs, belly, nose, and throat. Nothing was abnormal to her. So she prescribed some amoxycillin and asked that we do a CBC to check his blood chemestry levels.

He took the blood draw like a champ. I was really surprised. I was feeding him a bottle while they stuck him, so I guess the distraction helped. He did start to fuss when she moved the needle around to find the vein, but he quieted down quickly. The blood work came back normal according to the doctor, so I really don't know what is going on with my little boy.

He had another temperature tonight of 101.4F. His temperature can be controlled with Tylenol, but we can't continue to give that to him forever. As a mom, I feel horrible not knowing what I can do for him. He feels miserable most of the time, and there is nothing I can do for him. I sure hope that the antibiotics help him out, and if not, I hope that the doctors figure out what is wrong with him soon.

4/24/10 Storm

So I'm not sure if there is a severe storm coming in or what, but these clouds looked really awesome! I don't think that the storm is capable of producing tornadoes, but it could produce some severe thunderstorms. The storm was coming from the North.

learning to crawl...

Aidan has been working on crawling for the past week or so. He is really starting to get the hang of it!

I am so proud of my little boy...he's growing up so fast!

picking out a new home

So today, Derek and I went 'house hunting' in North Kansas City and Platte City, MO. We have narrowed down our search to 2 places, but can't decide on which one we like more. We have pros and cons about both. Here is some information about each.

The first is Carrington Park Apartments in Kansas City, MO. This is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 1146 sq ft apartment. It is in a nice, quiet, wooded area off of Barry Road. We absolutely love the look of the entire apartment, and the community. The clubhouse has a game room, swimming pool, movie theater, free wi-fi, printer, movie rentals, and a fitness center. The only thing we didn't like about it was that the patio/balcony was small and city ordinance requires that we cannot have a grill on our deck. Otherwise, it's awesome. Rent would be roughly $900 with cable included.

The second option is a duplex located in Platte City, MO. These are 3 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, 1500 sq ft. We like the idea that we would have a 2 car garage, a yard for Aidan to play in, a 'basement', a fireplace (gas), and a large kitchen/dining room/living room. This place feels more like a house rather than an apartment. Maybe because it actually is a house...but that's beside the point. The only problem we have is that the closets are small, we would accumulate more junk living in a larger space, there are some crappy apartments close by that ruin the look of the duplexes, and just the idea of living in such a small town (population 4800) bothers us. However, I really do like them though. The rent on these would be $1110.

Interview

Well, I had my first interview at Heartland Health Hospital in St. Joseph, MO today. I met with the nurse recruiter and did a tour of the facility. I think she will have me start off on PRN until a full-time position opens up. Unfortunately, the nurse leader on the med-surg floor wasn't available to talk to, but the interview went very well. She is going to check my references, and talk to the nurse leaders (both on med-surg and labor and delivery) before she can get the green light to hire me. She told me that the starting salary is $21.02/hr, but being PRN it would make it $24.17/hr, and if I work nights, I would make $27.80/hr, and if I work on weekends, it would be $30.02/hr. So when I start working full-time, my salary would range from $39000 to $45000 annually. I thought that the starting pay is pretty good for a nurse, especially in St. Joseph. I hope to find out soon if I was hired or not.

I also drove around Platte City, MO and it's a small, quiet town. It seems that a lot of highway traffic stops for gas and such, but other than that, it is nice. I couldn't find the duplexes that we are thinking about renting, but I did find one of the daycare centers. I hope to go back with Derek next week and check out more places.

wedding flowers

I have been contemplating what I am going to be doing about my wedding flowers. I was working on getting some consultation appointments set up, but haven't been very lucky with that. Unfortunately, Chinnel's is booked for my date, so I can't go with them. Maybe that is a good thing, since they are pretty expensive.
So as I was going through websites and after the bridal fairs, I came across Designs by Jan. She creates bouqets of silk flowers. I am trying to decide if I want to go with her or not. Here are some pictures of bouqets that I like:

This one has to be my favorite because it has a similar blue (as my wedding colors) in the bouqet

Aidan's 6 month Checkup

On Monday, Aidan had his 6 month well-baby visit with Dr. Magee. Overall, he is doing great. He is getting into the 50th percentile in length and head circumference. Weight though, he is still in the 33rd percentile. He weighed in at 17lbs and is 26 1/2 inches long.

I talked to the doctor about his congestion that has been progressively getting worse since he was born. It primarily happens at night and in the morning when he wakes up. We started to run a humidifier, but it doesn't seem to help all the time. He has caught something from daycare, perhaps a cold, cause his nose is running a lot more and he is sneezing frequently. The doctor thinks that he has acid reflux, and started him on prescription Zantac twice a day. Honestly, it's day two and I don't see a difference. But I will give it a little bit more time and see what happens. Another option he have me was to try Claritin for seasonal allergies. I don't think that's the issue either cause he doesn't have itchy or watery eyes. The last option he would try would be to treat him for Asthma...although he doesn't want to, since the medication will make him hyper and keep him up a lot.

My opinion on all of this is that I don't think he has any of the three. I think that he has just been sick for a while and hasn't received anything to treat the infection. Maybe he has a sinus infection or something. I would have suggested breathing treatments or something similar, and maybe an antibiotic. But I really don't want to question the doctor. Plus it is hard to determine the severity of the problem when he is getting over something already. I just feel so bad for him cause it seems like he is having a hard time breathing at night. He even wakes up frequently because he can't breathe, and he doesn't want to sleep without his binkie, so that makes it even harder!

I am supposed to call the doctor back in a couple weeks to let him know how the treatment is going. Hopefully it will get better.

Aidan's first Easter egg hunt at La Petite

Today, Aidan has his first Easter egg hunt at La Petite. He was a bit fussy cause he was tired, but once he started he was much better. He did pass out at the end with Miss Shannon, and slept the rest of the way home.

see how tired he was...

Aidan and his friend Alex...

Aidan and his teacher, Miss Shannon

He did such a good job. He loves daycare and his new friends. His first week went much better than I had expected. He has 3 teachers, Miss Elizabeth, Miss Bethany, and Miss Shannon. All the kids are around the same age. Alex is 8 months, Braden is 6 months, Maelle is 6 months, and Harrison is 7 months. Hopefully, he continues to thrive in daycare and make lots of friendships along the way. :)

Pacific Ocean Trash Vortex

I am very disturbed by this video. I knew that there was a huge problem with people recycling plastics, but never knew that it was so big...I mean twice the size of TEXAS!!?? This makes me very sad to see all the marine life suffering because of the consumers need to use plastic and not recycle it. Derek and I started recycling about 1 1/2 years ago, and now, I am glad we did. I just don't know what it will take to get people to understand the magnitude of the situation. I hope that spreading the word will help others understand.

Google, KS

So I was searching for items using Google, and they changed the name to "Topeka".

There is a story behind the name change...you can follow it on google's blog:

A different kind of company name

How cool is that?!
