From my previous post, you may have noticed that Aidan has been having a tough time with his ears for a while. Well, lately, he has yet again been under the weather.
A little background information first. We went to the doctor on Thursday of last week for his follow up appointment, as seen in my previous post. Well, Thursday night, I started feeling a little under the weather with some cold symptoms and a sore throat. I get to be so lucky that Aidan wakes me up with morning kisses, so of course, germs get spread in my house.
Starting Saturday, Aidan started developing the same symptoms, cough and runny nose with some congestion. I figured it was what I had, and he would get over it in a couple days. Sunday, he started developing a fever and was very lethargic. At first, it was a low grade one, running around 99ish (he usually runs 97-98). So I wasn't really concerned. We gave him some tylenol and let him lay around and snuggle all day. He took 3 naps, which he usually only takes one. We decided that since he never ran a high fever, it would be okay for him to go to daycare Monday. He had began to develop a cough Sunday as well, but it didn't seem to be of a concern (as it was normal with all the other symptoms he was having). Monday morning, he still had a mild temp, not going over 100. His daycare called and told Derek that Aidan had fallen and hurt himself on the playground, was crying and coughing so hard that he couldn't catch his breath. No fever though, yet. I told his daycare that unless he runs a temp, then we would like to keep him there (Normally, I would have picked him up, but I have been working the last 3 nights and it is really hard to sleep with him at home). Not even an hour later, he has a temp of 101.2, so Derek went to pick him up. He took a good long nap after some medicine, and he usually feels better once his fever breaks. Tuesday, still no daycare cause it hasn't been 24 hours, but he still seems to be running a temp (anywhere from 99-101) all day, and is still sluggish. I called the doctor to make an appointment, cause this is just getting ridiculous. We made an appointment for that evening, so both me and Derek can go.
He had a temp at the doctor's office from 100.3-100.8, and was coughing a lot. His coughs freak me out cause he gets to the point that he seems like he will throw up or stop breathing he is coughing so hard. After a long assessment with the doctor, she decides that he does have an ear infection in his ear (I couldn't tell you which one), his throat is red (which she believes is spiking the temps), and his right lower lung sounds a little diminished. She puts him on antibiotics for the ear infection, orders a chest x-ray for his lungs, and gives us an ENT referral. She said his fevers should get better over the next couple days.
Well, the chest x-ray came back normal, thank goodness. So he must just have some serious cold symptoms going on. The ENT doctor/office is supposed to be calling us within the next week to make an appointment.
Aidan still has his deadly cough, which is worse at night and naps. His temp has been staying steady around 97-99. And we are on day 2 of antibiotics. He does seem to be acting better, most of the time. Although he is still fussy. I am running out of ideas on what to do about his cough. We bought some Vicks vapor rub to put on his neck and chest at night. It helped a little bit, but he still wakes up coughing. This is just one of those things that we will have to wait and let it take its coarse. We go back to the doctor still at the end of June, so we will see if he is any better. Hopefully we make it until then.

mini update
Here are just a few updates on some things on my mind...
Aidan:
Today he had his follow up doctor appointment from his previous ear infections. The doctor said both ears look better than they have in the last 2 months. No infections. However, there is still some clear fluid (just a little bit) behind both ears. The doctor said they usually allow for 6-8 weeks for this to clear up, so we made a follow up appointment at the end of June. If there is still fluid build-up, or if he develops symptoms of an ear infection, then we will more than likely head to the ENT doctor. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the best!
Me:
Well, the last week and a half has been tough as far as eating right and working out. I am still on week 2 of the C25K, although I am in week 3 of my plan. It's hard to workout when I have a crazy work schedule, and right now, sleep is much more important than working out. But, I have tried to keep up whenever I can. I was going to go running today, but I got out of work late, and Aidan had his doctor's appointment this morning. I am going to go tomorrow though, and finish out week 2. I am okay with doing the run on my own time, as long as I do it.
I have to get motivated with my weight loss. I have a new goal of 5 lbs by the time we leave for our vacation this June. That's not too bad, and I hope it's achievable. We will see!

C25K Week 1...Complete!!!
Alright, so I made it through my first week of C25K. I have to admit, it took a lot of motivation and desire to even get started, but now that I finally have, I feel like I have an obligation not only to the program, but to myself to finish it. For those who know me (well), I have a hard time finishing things that I start, especially when it comes to diet and exercise. I deserve this, I know it. Just have to take it one day at a time. So here is how my first week went (don't worry, it shouldn't be this long each time)...
Day 1
Today, I started my diet. I already had the iPhone app My Fitness Pal, and I have alloted myself 1200 calories per day. That sounds a bit extreme, but it is managable. If I consume 1200 per day, I have the ability to lose 2 lbs per week. I have maintained my caloric intake, if not stayed under. I just have to make sure I document everything I take in. Sadly, today, I only took in 825 calories. I weighed in, and I am 34 lbs above my goal weight. But, I hope to lose about 2 lbs a week.
I did not start the C25K today, however. I decided to do one thing at a time. Tomorrow, I will begin that journey.
Day 2
Today, I started the C25K. I started out with a brisk 5-minute walk for warm up, followed by intervals of 60 second jogging and 90 second walking. this lasted for 20 minutes. Then a 5-minute walk to cool down. This will be the same for the entire week. How I feel about it may not.
I must say, the beginning wasn't too bad. I just used the treadmill at the fitness center, so I can monitor all my stats. I had my water, towel, cell phone, and chapstick all handy during my run. (can't go anywhere without my chapstick!). I'm not sure why, but throughout the run/walk, I had some chest pain (don't freak out, it wasn't that kind of chest pain). I think it's because I had the wrong bra on and I wasn't well prepared. I was hungry and dehydrated, and had a too stretched out sports bra on. I am bigger busted, so its hard to keep the girls under wraps, not to mention shopping for a sports bra that fits! Anyways, I made it through without falling off, and felt tired, but accomplished when it was all said and done. I ran/walked 2.3 miles at a pace of 6.0/3.7 respectively, and burned 191 calories.
With my calorie burn, I only had an intake of 681 calories, but did not feel like I was starving either. I need to work on balancing my diet and exercise so I don't go into starvation mode.
Day 3
Today, I slept all day cause I had to work last night. So no run/walk for me today (I wouldn't have anyways since I try to do it every other day). However, I did do well on my intake, well sort of. I was over by 28 calories. I had to indulge in some nuggets and a snickers peanut butter squares bar today. But it's only 28 calories, not too bad, right?
Day 4
Well, today is day 2 of C25K. I am still sore from day 1, but I keep telling myself that I have to do it. There is no quitting, not this time! Today, I felt better going into my walk/run. I did the same as day 1, but I didn't have any pain (chest pain that is) today. I practiced my breathing, and kept myself hydrated throughout. The time seemed to have gone by faster, but not sure why. Today, I ran/walked 2.33 miles at a pace of 6.0/4.0 respectively, and burned 200 calories.
As for intake, well, the hospital cafeteria had taco bar for lunch...not good! I am glad I went and did my exercise today. It makes it feel less guilty. Unfortunately, I can't calculate my calories today, cause I'm not sure how much was in that taco salad/nachos I had. But, I have eaten well the rest of the day, so it shouldn't be too bad (I hope).
Day 5
Today, Aidan's daycare had Muffins with Mom. So, of course I had to go. I picked at what looked like an Otis Spunkmeyer Banana Nut Muffin, while Aidan chowed down on his mini cinnamon rolls and fruit. He also ate most of my muffin as well. Overall, I stayed within my calorie goal, and enjoyed a wonderful day with my lil man. ~ He didn't stay at daycare by the way, we ended up just going back home afterwards, oh, and to the park for a couple hours before dinner.
Day 6
My last day of week 1. Whew, I didn't think I was going to make it through the week! I still have no desire to want to do it, but I keep telling myself that I have to. And when it's done, it's done. It only takes up about 30-40 minutes of my day; I can handle that. Anyways, todays run/walk wasn't that bad. I managed to get through it without much pain. I didn't feel that bad afterwards, just really hot and sweaty...yuck! But it's over, week 1 is DONE! Now let's hope that I can make it through week 2!
Day 7
Ah, Mother's Day. I spent my day mostly sleeping, due to work. However, I did come home to my hubby making breakfast (pancakes and eggs), and was able to eat with Aidan. That was special, well, sort of. We do that a lot anyways. The rest of the day I didn't do a whole lot, except sleep, so not much to talk about today.
Oh yeah, I weighed in today....total loss: 3 lbs...woohoo!

Sleep Training Update and more...
It has been a couple months since we started this whole sleep training thing, and so far, it has been working, well sort of.
Aidan has the ability to go to bed and fall asleep all by himself when his dad is putting him to bed, and I am at work. But when Aidan knows that I am home, he gets really clingy towards me, and doesn't want to go to bed. He usually cries for about 5 minutes when we lay him down, but he does eventually fall asleep. Oh, and I cannot put him to bed, or he will give me the guilt trip face and cry like I am abandoning him. It just breaks my heart. I try to avoid putting him to bed as much as possible.
Now as for his naps, they aren't going as well. He goes to daycare 5 days a week, and does great with naptime there. On the weekends, however, he does not do so well. I think it's because he doesn't see us as much, and wants to be around us when he takes a nap. We allow him to fall asleep in the living room on the couch, rather than in his bed. This has not affected his nighttime sleep habits. When we attempted the crib, he would cry for the entire 30 minutes, then end up falling asleep on the couch later anyways. So we just decided that him falling asleep on his own in the living room was fine as long as it wasn't going to affect him sleeping at night.
About 4 weeks ago, we attempted taking away Aidan's pacifier at bedtime and naptime, and every other time. It was tough at first, but he took to it rather well. 4 weeks later, he hasn't had the binky and is doing great without it. I am so proud!
Also, at some course during the last week, Aidan finally (and I mean finally), cut his two bottom incisors. We have only been waiting for this since February (when he cut the top ones). I didn't think it would take this long, but I am so glad it's over. Now we just have to wait for the top 2 year molars to come through and then he will have all of his baby teeth!
Also, I missed his stats from his 18 month appointment a month ago. He weighs in at 27.14 lbs and is 34 1/8 inches long. He knows how to say several words including: mama, dada, baby, dog, ball, look, sky, bird, mine, cookie, car, woah, please, pee-pee, poo-poo, nose, eyes, ears, and several other jabbering words that we just don't quite understand yet. He is still working on the potty training, and we aren't trying to push it too much either. We sit him on the potty before he gets in the bath to try to get him used to the idea. He still loves to read, and his favorite books are all the Dr. Suess books, I love you Forever, and his mini-Sesame Street books. He loves to play outside, and enjoys playing inside with his Discover toys marble ball (they aren't quite marbles though) tower, and his cars. He has been practicing his jumping skills, and loves to run around the house. He has been becoming more and more picky about what he eats and his appetite has been increasing and decreasing with every day. He is a pretty typical 18 month old.
