Aidan's Doctor Appt

So I broke down and finally took Aidan to see the doctor today. He has developed a cough and has been congested since Saturday. His cough was a barking cough, and his daycare center seemed concerned. He hasn't been running a fever or anything, so I wasn't going to take him unless it has been going on for a couple more days.

So anyways, we saw the doctor, and Aidan is weighing in at a whopping 23.4 lbs! He is only 10 1/2 months old right now. So I would say he is gaining about a pound a month. I guess that table food is really putting on some lbs for the little guy. The doctor listened to his lungs, and found a little bit of a wheezing/coarseness on his right bronchiole. He is thinking it sounds like some thick secretions that aren't breaking up. Aidan also had a little bit of fluid in his left ear, which is suggesting possibly a sinus infection. He started him on the antibiotic Zithromax for 4 days. We are going to continue him on Claritin as well, since it's working (he has been having trouble breathing at night).

We also received a prescription for albuterol. It's a steriod for bronchiole dilation, but has a side effect that will make him hyperactive. The problem is that we are supposed to give it to him when he has difficulty breathing, which is mainly at night. So I guess if we decide to give it to him, he will be up for a while!

I hope that this clears up his problems, and if not, we will be visiting the doctor yet again in about 10-14 days.

St Louis, here we come!

Day 1...Friday, August 13
We left on time at 6pm, but unfortunately, there was a traffic jam due to an accident on I-435. It took us about 45 minutes to drive 3 miles....ridiculous. By the time we got out of town, we stopped at Steak and Shake for dinner. Aidan was getting super fussy by now, and needed to eat. Back on the road, we ran into several thunderstorms and rainpours. We finally arrived at our hotel around 11:30pm. Aidan slept for most of the way to the hotel, but of course, when we finally get there, he is wide awake. We are hoping to go to the zoo and the anheuser-busch brewery tomorrow. So much for an early night. We are going to be wiped out by the end of the day tomorrow!

Day 2...Saturday, August 14
We woke up very early and got ready for our day. Only on about 5 hours of sleep, we mosied on down to the lobby for breakfast. We left somewhat on time to head to the St. Louis Zoo. The weather channel gave it a 60% chance for scattered thunderstorms, so we were a bit nervous. We went anyways, and had a blast. It was super hot, and we (meaning me and aidan) got a little red. We saw all sorts of animals. We also rode the train and the carousel. Aidan was asleep for the train ride, but did wake up for the carousel. He really enjoyed it, to the point where he didn't want to get off. He hung onto the pole pretty tightly after it was over. He rode a lion cub. We also saw a sea lion show that was pretty amazing. They did all sorts of tricks and we learned a little bit about them as well.

After the zoo, we went to the Anheuser-Busch Brewery for a tour. We went through the clydesdale stables, the aging cellars, the brewing process, packaging plant, and then to the hospitality room where we enjoyed 2 FREE beers....yes, they were FREE!! I tried the Budlight lime and a regular budlight. I've had budlight before and liked it, but haven't had the lime one. It was very good. At this point, Aidan was asleep again. It was time to go back to the hotel to get some dinner and relax.

Day 3...August 15
Today was our last day in St. Louie. We tried to sleep in, but Aidan was sleeping between us in the bed, so that didn't happen. He had trouble breathing last night, scared me to death, so I brought him to bed with us around 1am to keep an eye on him. This morning, his breathing was so bad, I was really nervous. I wasn't sure what to do...do I take him to the hospital, or just wait it out and try some remedies at home. I called my mom for some advice (yes I do that a lot, even though I am a nurse), and she suggested to keep an eye on him, offer him fluids, and see if he gets better. Lucky for us, he did. He does have a weird cough though, but it doesn't happen very often.
Anyways, we ate breakfast and checked out of the hotel around 11am. We needed to get a nap in for Aidan before the road trip home. We drove to Hermann, MO and visited the Stone Hill Winery there. We did a tour of the cellars and had a wine tasting afterwards. We bought a couple bottles of wine and went on our way back home.

Although it was a long drive (or at least it seemed to be), it was a great first vacation for our family. Now I just want to crash at home and put everything away on another day.

Aidan's 1st Steps

So after a lot of practice, and anticipation...Aidan has officially taken his first steps. He has been standing on his own for a few weeks, but never had the courage to take steps on his own. He was doing great with walking along furniture, pushing his toys around and hanging onto our hands. But just couldn't do the walking thing.

Until last night...we thought we would try again and see what happened. Sure enough, he took a step, then fell to the floor. I was so excited, I wasn't sure if it was 'officially' a step or not. So, Derek and I tried to have him walk to each other. I stood him up, helped him get started, and off he went. He took about 4-5 steps towards his daddy. It was amazing. My heart just dropped. This is a HUGE milestone for him. I am really proud of him, words just can't express it.

So now that he is gaining the courage to walk on his own...I wonder how long it will take for him to be running all over the house?

This video is just a short clip of one of the many times he took a step or two. He wouldn't do it as well with the camera on him, but at least I got something!

first family vacation preview

So I decided to be spontaneous and treat my family to a weekend getaway (for next weekend). It's the only full weekend that I will have off of work, and since I no longer have school anymore (and passed my boards!), I decided why not go away and get some much needed R&R.

So here's the plan...we are going to go to St. Louis, MO for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Our goal is to drive up Friday night, go to the zoo and Anheuser-Busch Brewery on Saturday, and on our way home, we will stop by the Stone Hill Winery on Sunday.

Now if it rains, we will have to make other arrangements. But, we are hoping for a nice weekend as a family. Stay tuned for more details when we get back! I am super excited!

reception menu....

So we met with the caterer last night and decided on a menu for our reception. Now it isn't set in stone, but we are pretty sure it's going to be the same...

We are going to do a buffet style dinner done by Sweet Dreams Catering (from Meriden, KS).

So here's the menu:
*Roast Beef
*Mesquite chicken (with BBQ sauce)
*cheesy augratin potatoes
*green beans with bacon
*vegetable medley (brocolli, cauliflower, squash, carrots)
*house salad with assorted dressings
*rolls

We also decided on a cake, but that's hard to describe, so you will just have to wait and see what it looks like! It's going to be AWESOME!
