Update

I know it's been a while since I've written an entry, but I have been busy. Plus, I really don't think anyone reads these anyways...So here's an update of the past month...

Aidan:
We have been to the doctor 3 times since October 25th. He has had 2 ear infections in less than 30 days, and today was his follow up appointment with his pediatrician. He weighs in at 25.4 lbs, and his ears look good (there was a lot of wax in them, but otherwise, they look great).

He has really been growing lately as well. He can reach doorknobs, and pull things off of the countertops now. He just hasn't figured out how to turn the knob yet. He has learned sign language at daycare, and can now say "please", "thank you", and "more". It is just the cutest thing. He still really enjoys Sesame Street, and his favorite shows are 'Abby's Flying Fairy School', and 'Elmo's World'. He will stop dead in his tracks when they come on.

He has taken an interest in unloading the dishwasher lately (well over the past couple months). He will climb on top of the dishwashwer door and take out all the silverware. He really enjoys being a little helper. He also has an interest in playing hide and seek, and encourages us to chase after him by giving us these mysterious looks. He enjoys playing peek a boo, and loves to push around his ride along fire truck. He still loves to play with balls and cars, and we have advanced him up to a sippy cup with straws. We are looking at starting him on potty training soon, and advance him to a toddler bed sometime early next year. He loves being treated like a 'big' boy. He has also learned how to turn on/off the TV, which can get annoying sometimes too.

Derek & Me:
Well, nothing much has changed with us recently. I have been dieting since early November and have lost about 12 pounds so far. Today, I was able to fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans for the first time. I am very excited about losing weight, and hopefully will be at my goal weight in a few months. Not too many people know about my diet, and I hope that people will notice a change when I see them for Christmas.

Derek and I have been married for 2 months, today. Woohoo! Sadly, married life isn't any different than 'single' life when we were not married. I guess having kids will change that. But I wouldn't trade it for the world. It's just nice now that we all have the same last name, and it makes things a lot easier. Now we are working on paying down our wedding debt, and searching for a new car for me. We have put up our Christmas tree after Thanksgiving, and Aidan has been off and on getting into it. But he is sneaky about it.

We are looking forward to Christmas, and also for it to be over with. I really dislike running from family to family, but sometimes, we just have to. Maybe next year, we won't go to everyone's Christmas, and just stay home on Christmas Day. Now there's something to ponder....

Goals for finishing out 2010

With the end of the year approaching, I am in desperate need to feel like I accomplished something this year. Of course, planning a successful wedding was a BIG accomplishment, but I want something else on my list. So, I have just under 2 months to make some goals, and attempt to get them achieved. With the holidays coming up, I hope that it isn't too crazy!

So, here they are:
1. Complete Aidan's baby book with pictures and momentos.
2. Start and continue a workout plan.
3. Begin working on a wedding scrapbook.
4. Put up pictures around the house.
5. Read another book - The Last Song, by Nicholas Sparks
6. Go on a date with Derek

That's not a lot, but considering I work night shift and my days off are precious, I am hoping to get these things accomplished before the new year comes along.

I have also been working on some new year resolutions. I have come up with one goal for each month, and hopefully it will pay off for my ultimate goal in the end...lose weight (can't tell how much, just because I am hoping for whatever I can take). So here are some of my goals...
1. Stop drinking pop, and replace with water
2. Go for a walk 3 times a week
3. Cut out desserts and replace with fruits
4. Workout 3 times a week for 30 minutes a day
5. Replace snacks with vegetables
6. Stop going to fast food restaurants...limit visits, and choose healthy options.

I hope to come up with a total of 12 goals for each month next year, to ultimately get to my one resolution of weight loss. I know it's typical for weight loss to be a resolution, and I have been through it over the past several years. But this year is going to be different. I want to get into shape in order to be better off later in life. I want to make life changes, to set a good example for Aidan. I don't want him to grow up thinking that hot dogs and macaroni and cheese is part of a food group. He needs to learn to eat healthy, and I have to practice what I preach to make him understand that.

Aidan's 1st Haircut

If you haven't noticed already, Aidan's hair has been getting rather long lately. Some even mistaken him for a little girl, how sad I know. So we took the drive up to Holton, KS to get his first hair cut at the same place that I get mine done, Ginger Snips. Kelly does an amazing job on my hair, and she seems to be great with kids too. Aidan sat still for the most part (Derek held him in his lap), and didn't even cry. We cut about 1 inch off, and now he looks like such a big boy now.

So sad that he looks all grown up now, but at least his hair is under control!

Happy Halloween!

This is the first year that we dressed Aidan up in a costume and took him trick or treating. Last year, he was only a month old, and didn't really see the point. So after about an hour of hunting down a costume, I finally found one at Babies R Us. He dressed as a lion and was super cute!

His first (or rather second) party was at our apartment clubhouse. The management team through a great halloween party for kids. Aidan had a blast eating cupcakes, pizza, and cookies. He crashed pretty hard after that!

For Halloween night, we went to my Aunt and Uncle's house down in Overland Park and trick or treated in their neighborhood. Sadly, I didn't have my camera with me (I wish I brought it now!), so I didn't get any pictures of his first trick or treating experience. But he did great! He learned how to pick out the candy (and he picked a handful when he could), and put it in his bag. He waved goodbye to everyone as he was leaving. He did very well on the candy, although he can't eat half of it! Most of what he got has nuts in it, so that is off limits for him for now!

After trick or treating, we ate dinner at my family's house and Aidan was wired for quite some time afterwards. He fell asleep in the car on the way home, and barely woke up long enough to take his medicine. Actually, he didn't wake up...I just gave it to him like he was sucking on his binkie. Good thing it tasted good! We may have to do this every year, seeing how much he enjoys it!

Happy Halloween!!!

Pumpkin Patch picking and more...

We went to Carolyn's Pumpkin Cousins in Liberty today and picked out a few pumpkins for halloween. Aidan did very well, and really enjoyed walking around and getting into everything. First, we went on a hayride to the pumpkin patch to pick out a few pumpkins for aidan, mommy, and daddy.

Then we went and played on the playground, saw some animals, and wondered around until Aidan was tired. Well, he never really got tired, but it was time to go anyways.

Although it was a bit windy and chilly, we had a blast. This is definitely something that will probably turn into a yearly tradition.

Once at home, we let Aidan attempt to paint his pumpkin. He was somewhat successful with a little bit of help. He did try to eat the paint a couple times, and did manage to ruin my sweater because he though it needed some blue on it. However, his pumpkin did turn out like a 1 year old's pumpkin should....

1 Year check-up

Aidan had his first appointment with his new pediatrician today for his 1 year check up. The doctor was super nice and great with him. He weighs in at 23.8 lbs and is 30.75 inches long. He is perfectly healthy right now. Developmentaly, he is right on track too. He did have some shots today, which he screamed for. He also had a flu shot too. We are going to get some labs drawn as well, but that's not until later. They are going to do a basic CBC and test for lead. We will find out the results in about a week.

We will have another doctors appointment at his 15 month check up in January. Check back then for an update!
